Luzerne County Historical Society to Hold Benefit Auction & Sale – September 24, 2017
The Luzerne County Historical Society will hold a benefit auction and sale starting at noon on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at the Swetland Homestead, 885 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, PA. The auction will feature furniture and decorative accessories including a late federal period drop leaf table, a Wilkes-Barre Railway fare register, a veneered documents drawer, Victorian chest, Oriental rugs, Victorian sofa, vintage sleds, and more. In addition to the live auction, there will be tables with local history books from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as food and art vendors. Please note that these are NOT items from the Historical Society’s collection, but instead items that have been donated for sale to benefit the Society’s ongoing programs and collections care.
The historic Swetland Homestead, originally built in 1803, is open year-round by appointment for tours. Admission is free for members; $5 for non-members and $3 for children. Additional themed events take place throughout the year at the Swetland Homestead including, “Victorian Death and Mourning” in October and “Candlelight Tours” in early December.
Founded in 1858, the Luzerne County Historical Society is Pennsylvania’s oldest county historical society.
