The Luzerne County Historical Society will present its Haunted History program at the Denison and Swetland Houses on Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Travel through centuries of superstitions, folklore and mourning customs at these two historic homes.  Feel a shiver down your spine and learn about how Halloween traditions and symbols evolved.

Colonial Superstitions, Folklore and Witchcraft at the Denison House, 35 Denison Street, Forty Fort, PA, will explore the folklore and traditions of the 1700s when superstitions were intertwined with everyday life.  Ghost stories, symbols and warding off witches will be explored – and a few surprises may appear!

At the Swetland Homestead, 885 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, PA, Victorian Death and Mourning will recreate the funeral of Margaret (Maggie) Swetland, who died in 1860.  Visitors will investigate Victorian mourning traditions and symbolism, learning about how they evolved into many of our present-day traditions.

Combination tickets for both houses are $15 for LCHS members, $20 for non-members and $10 for kids 5-17.  Tickets for one house are $8 for members, $12 for non-members and $5 for kids 5-17.  To make advance reservations call 570-823-6244 ext. 3 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
