
The Dorrance Sisters and Rose Cultivation

In celebration of Women’s History Month, on Thursday, March 27th, 2025, the LCHS will host a lecture on the Dorrance sisters and their famous greenhouses, presented by researcher and journalist Tom Mooney at the LCHS Museum, Rear 69 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
The Dorrances lived on the Wyoming Valley’s West Side and were noted botanists. They grew many types of plants in their sprawling greenhouses (under the shadow of the Dorrance Colliery) including several different breeds of roses.
