Luzerne County Historical Society to Present Radio Play on the Lattimer Massacre As Part of Anthracite Mining Heritage month Thursday January 10, 2019

In connection with the region-wide celebration of Anthracite Mining Heritage Month in January 2019, the Luzerne County Historical Society will present an original radio play on the 1897 Lattimer Massacre, which took place at the Lattimer Mine, near Hazleton, PA.  The program will take place on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wyoming Presbyterian Church, 454 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, PA.

Join Penn State Wilkes-Barre professor, and Denison Advocate, William Bachman as he hosts an old-time radio drama based on the actual events surrounding the 400 miners who marched for better working conditions and better lives for their families on that fateful September day in 1897. The play also contains excerpts from the highly publicized criminal trial in 1898. This is a free event; refreshments will be provided. Copies of the play will be available for sale along with mining-related publications from the Society’s gift shop. For questions, call 570-823-6244 ext. 3 or email reservations@luzernehistory.org.

The annual regional observance of Anthracite Mining Heritage Month will take place during January 2019, at programs throughout Luzerne County.  This annual event focuses on the history and culture of the anthracite region in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
